Occupational Health & Safety Policy Statement
Sand Monitoring Services (SMS) Ltd is committed to the prevention of injury and ill health to all our staff, this includes all third parties visiting our facilities. SMS expect all employees to contribute towards achieving our Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) objectives - OHS is everyone’s responsibility, and a prime responsibility at all levels of management. Our aim is to encourage initiative and adopt best practice in a culture where employees and managers are aware of their individual health and safety responsibilities and are actively engaged and committed to improving standards of health and safety.
Our objectives are measurable and have clearly defined, set timeframes. The objectives are set out and reviewed during strategic planning to enable SMS Ltd to deliver the scope of our OHS system. Our OHS objectives are stated as follows:
- Prevention of accidents and ill health to all staff, contractors and visitors to SMS operated premises.
- Continually improve OHS performance through the use of a process driven system encompassing the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) cycle.
- Continually improve understanding of OHS issues at all levels within the organisation.
- Compliance, as a minimum, with all applicable legislation, SMS Ltd requirements and specific requirements as required by industry and our clients.
- Gain registration to and subsequently maintain BS OHSAS 18001:2007 certification
These OHS objectives are key to our business activities and are complimentary to those established for our ISO 9001:2008 Quality systems. The establishment of a process driven OHS system includes the preparation of documented OHS procedures and instructions in accordance with the requirements of the OHSAS 18001:2007 standard and the effective implementation of a documented OHS system that includes procedures and instructions where appropriate. It is also our policy to maintain that documented OHS system.
Management will ensure -
- Implementation and continued improvement of an occupational risk management system that meets the requirements of the British Standards Institute specification, OHSAS 18001:2007
- SMS will provide adequate and appropriate resources to implement the OHS policy achieve our OHS objectives to ensure the OHS policy is communicated, understood and enables staff to carry out their jobs competently.
- Provision of suitable and sufficient occupational health and safety information, instruction and training to enable all staff to carry out their jobs competently
- Effective communication and cooperation with third parties so they are aware of our OHS expectations
All employees will:-
- Regard the responsibility laid down in this policy statement and in the responsibility/arrangement procedures as an integral part of their duties and will use these as the basis by which to plan and execute operations within their particular sphere of influence.
- Abide by the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1976 (HASAWA 1976), and other relevant Health, Safety and Environment legislation that may be applicable, at all times.
The Managing Director of Sand Monitoring Services Ltd has formulated the OHS policy. The policy is explained and discussed at the general orientation training given to all new employees and has been reviewed with all current employees. All employees are expected to know what the OHS policy means to them as it affects their role within the company. The policy is posted in prominent locations throughout the facility.
